Camping breakfast tips — prepare your eggs beforehand!

cooking eggs camping

Cooking eggs at camp for friends and family is one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy a good egg and potato breakfast outdoors more than a campfire dinner! Prepping your eggs beforehand can make your camping or overlanding trip a lot easier — especially if you have kids tagging along.

Important Items: Egg Container, Cast Iron Skillet, Sealed Liquid Container

Prepare the eggs for an easy camp breakfast

Camp breakfast in the hot Anza Borrego desert!

Scramble eggs at home before the trip. Add salt/pepper and even onions and bell peppers if you want to go all out. You can chop ham and mix it in. We transport the eggs mixture in a sealed liquid container. An even easier method is to buy a carton of pre-scrambled eggs at the grocery store and throw it in your food cooler. The one I get comes with bell peppers and seasoning already mixed in. Throw them on your favorite camp stove or open fire and enjoy. That’s why I love my cast iron skillet for camping

Boiled eggs for camping

Really want to go super easy? Boil eggs before the trip and store them in the cooler — nobody wants to be cracking eggs while camping. Transport them in this travel egg container which will keep them safe in a cooler.

We had boiled eggs while camping on our last trip which allowed us to go on a morning hike before the hot sun baked us.

When we have time our camp breakfast usually includes eggs, frozen hash brown potatoes (helps keep the cooler cold) and sausages. This makes your camp neighbors jealous and your belly happy with plenty of fuel for a strenuous late morning hike. The best part is you can cook it all in one big cast iron pan (this one is our favorite) over the open fire or your camp stove.

DON’T FORGET: We’ve done this plenty of times. Don’t forget cooking oil or butter! Now I bring along olive oil spray for all my camping meals.
