If you’ve ever searched for an roof rack awning to mount on your truck for overlanding, camping, or tailgating, you know there are quite a few choices. I’m currently researching my best options and would like to stick to the $200-$400 price range. Here’s a what I’ve come up with so far:
Roof Rack Awning Prices
- ARB 4×4 2000 Awning — $272 at Amazon
- TJM Awning Medium Size — $171.50 at Boss 4×4
- Offroad Gear 6.5ft Awning — $229 at Amazon
- Rhino Rack Sunseeker — Around $300 at various outlets
Is there anything else I’m missing? I know CVT also makes awnings to mount on trucks, jeeps, and cars, but they seem to be a little out of my price range.
Mounting the awning to a BajaRack
I will be mounting this on my Toyota Tacoma and the flat BajaRack. Pulling over and having some immediate shade on the side of a trail or at the campsite is why I really want one of these.
I’ve taken a basic ez-up camping plenty of times but they can be cumbersome and not hold up well in the wind. Storing an ez-up in the truck takes up valuable space. With an awning like these you can position your vehicle to block some of the wind and stake these down with guy-lines. Losing an ez-up on a windy morning in the desert is not something I plan on doing again.
Let me know your experience with awnings mounted to your truck’s roof rack and how it works out for you. I’ll be adding another post when I make my decision on which awning to get for my Toyota Tacoma.
