Redback Boots: I love them, but getting the sizing right was tricky

I’ve been wearing Redback Boots for almost two years now. Having high arches, they’ve been great for my feet and back. I also hate laces… so slip-on boots for work is great. But unlike my Blundstones, which fit snug and comfy, my Redbacks never felt like the perfect fit. They always slipped a bit in the heel despite feeling snug everywhere else. I just assumed that’s how they are supposed to be and dealt with it since my feet feel great even after wearing them all day.

Fast forward to now and I think my boots have been too small all along. I assumed because these Chelsea boots slipped in the heel, they are too big. I was absolutely wrong.

If your Redback boots are slipping in the heel, they might actually be too SMALL.

I recently had the chance to get another pair of boots so I decided to go up a size in my Redbacks. After all, my regular shoe size is a half size bigger. Upon first putting them on they felt too big with plenty of room in the toe area, but when I got up to walk around the heel-slip was gone! I was shocked.

After using them for a few days with my standard socks I’ve always worn, kinda thick socks, the rest of the boot felt a bit loose. But still, no heel-slip. I decided to buy Redback’s leather insole which is thicker than the one they send with the boot. It’s under $30 and got some good reviews, so why not?

Oh man! What a difference. I can now wear my regular socks, and even thinner socks, and these boots feel perfect. They are snug and stable, and climbing steps feels secure. Taking them off is no longer too easy, I have to actually give them a nice little pull to get them off, which is what you want.

It makes sense. If you go to Redback’s sizing page on their website, it says the following:

“Redback Leather Insoles are great for fitting into your boot as well as adding an extra foot bed of comfort!

If when you initially put on your boots and they seem to be somewhat loose, simply utilize your leather Insoles and your thick work socks for the Ultimate Comfort package.”

So there you have it. I have wide feet and high arches, and now my Redback work boots fit absolutely perfect.

If you have Redback boots, or any Chelsea boots for that matter, and experience heel slip when walking — They might be actually too small. Try on a size that is a half size bigger, maybe with some thicker socks, and see if that helps. You might need a thicker insole as well. It seems like a lot of work to get your boots right, but I absolutely loath shoe laces and really only use my lace-up Redback boots when I am doing intensive work that involves a lot of climbing ladder and stairs. Now, I may not need them at all since I’ve fine tuned these slip-on boots.

If you’ve never tried Redback Boots, give them a shot. They are the most comfortable pair of boots I’ve ever worn, even before getting the sizing perfect. And I’ve tried a lot of different boots.
