Review: Ryno Tuff Sleeping Pad Mattress for camping

camping sleeping pad

Finding a compact and comfortable sleeping pad for camping at a reasonable price has been a goal of mine for awhile. The Ryno Tuff Sleeping Pad Mattress has proved to be durable, comfortable, and compact. The price makes it a great low-risk option as you’ll see in my review.

Inflating the Ryno Tuff Sleeping Pad

The Ryno Tuff Sleeping Pad is a self-inflating mattress pad that can be used for tent camping, truck camping, or just as an extra sleeping platform for the house. Blowing it up is pretty simple. Lay out the sleeping pad, open the valve and let it begin to inflate. It takes some time so walk away and go do another task. When you get back you can add a little more air with a few deep breaths to get your desired firmness. Twist the valve closed and enjoy!

To close it up you must open the valve and let the air escape. I usually give it about ten minutes and then begin to roll it up, pushing the air out as I go. It takes a bit of patience but it’s no different than any other self-inflating camping mattress. It rolls up nicely and fits into the bag which will be smaller and lighter than your standard sleeping bag roll.

How I use it

It’s probably not a good idea to leave it inflated all the time, but I’ve had mine inflated in the bed of my truck for a few months now. I use it almost daily to take short naps during my lunch break under my much-loved softopper truck canopy.

I figured this would be the best way to test the durability and comfort of the Ryno Tuff Sleeping Pad — especially after my negative experience with the Exped Sleeping Pad awhile ago. You can adjust the firmness by opening the valve and letting out air or blowing more in. It doesn’t seem to be letting air out despite just sitting in the back of my hot truck. I’m impressed.

A bonus feature on a camping sleeping pad

This is what I love about the Ryno Tuff. There are buttons on each side of the sleeping pad that allows two of them connected together side by side! This sleeping pad is 24 inches wide so it will fit perfectly between the wheel wells of a Toyota Tacoma. Now my son and I can sleep comfortably in the bed of the truck without having to set up a tent. It wasn’t easy to find this setup in other sleeping pad companies.

We also snap two of them together in the tent for my wife and I to share!

I recommend this product to any overlander or camper looking for a sleeping pad that won’t break the bank. Head over to the Amazon product page to view specs and reviews of the Ryno Tuff Sleeping Pad.
